November 10: round four of Solo Gaming Day

This was by far the most exciting game of the day.  Wolverine & Gambit/Rogue vs the new Brotherhood: Mystique, Sabertooth and Caliban.  Up to this point, the villains have been getting all of the adventitious deployment rolls all day long.  The X-men pieces in the reinforcement pool were legion (no X-Pun intended), while I was down to a mere three X-Villains in that pool.  Things started off badly for the X-Men when their first deployment roll was double sixes.  Great! No one to rescue... and so the game went on.

The game finally started when Wolverine went after the Dark Beast.  Oh yes! the villains deployment roll added a reinforcement on the second turn.  Mystique moved in in hopes of mopping Logan up, but that was not to happen.  Wolvie's first two blades rolls were sixes; two villains: Dark Beast & Raven Darkholme were gone right quick.

Sabertooth finally charged in and he & Logan did battle. Wolverine had felt confident to push and kill Mystique, but Sabertooth's special ability (MORTAL WOUND: When a character takes 3 or more damage from Sabretooth's attack, that character can't heal for the rest of the game even if this power is countered or lost.) made him pay for that action. Eventually, Wolverine & Gambit/Rogue did away with Sabertooth and had to deal with Caliban and Mystique.  Did I forget to mention that along the way, the Brotherhood got a rescue roll during the deployment phase!

Yeah, so Mystique & Fabian Cortez move in to help Caliban.  Wait, Fabian Cortez? Does this mean that the villains got another reinforcement roll during the deployment phase? Yes, for God's sake, that's what it means.  Wolverine was taking damage from Caliban's poison and could not heal.  Things were looking bleak for the heroes until...


The heroes finally got a reinforcement roll!  It was tough choosing which character to bring into the game, there were so many to choose from.  Nightcrawler saved the day allowing Gambit/Rogue to finish off Caliban and save Wolverine from being poisoned to death.  The Three X-men move into the next phase along with a weakened Mystique & Fabian Cortez.
